1987 300E 3.2 AMG

The real deal - a Hammer in 6-cyl clothing. Most everyone on this site already knows about this car, but I'd like to get it to a good home. Having two collectible AMGs just means that I have two cars that I don't drive often. Drives tight and fast, looks excellent, has only 68k miles on it while still getting 22 mpg highway. Not bad for a collectible!

I made a webpage with lots of pictures under Photos:

Very clean looking for an 87. Beautiful car. I wish I had the money to pick this up. One of my all time favorite cars. This car is the reason that us AMG drivers can drive with our heads held high. Pure piece of history. Good luck with the sale.

Lowered my price to $11,000. I hate to sell it at such a low price, but ultimately I want it to go to a good home.

What is with this unmitigated douchebaggery???

You obviously have no idea of what a Hammer is. You probably don't even know AMG used to be an independent tuner. You have obviously no idea what "Authentic AMG" means. This car would go for 15K easy if we weren't in a recession w/ gas above 4 per gallon.

You are an ignorant loser who has no idea of value. All you can do is sit behind your stained keyboard and look up stupid, irrelevant KBB values. Is that all you know about cars? Is that all you're good for? Looking up NADA and Edmunds? Do you contribute anything else AT ALL to this site?

I wasn't going to say anything at first, but all I see is you cr@pping on sale thread after sale thread. It's just a fact of life that sellers always want to get high or close to retail for their cars (meanwhile, buyers think they can pay wholesale or less); people meet in the middle and that's how it works.

99% of the people on this board mean well. If something is grossly overpriced, they'll say something constructive like "you may need to adjust the price to sell quickly in this market." You, on the other hand, being the total Dbag and loser that you are, have nothing better to do than go into thread after thread mocking people and their nice Benzes. You obviously have nothing constructive to say, and you obviously do not contribute anything beyond your threadcr@pping. You are therefore nothing but a troll.

Give me a break dude......you are out of your element here if you don't understand the rarity and pedigree of this car (even if it isn't a Hammer). While you were a little bit more on the money when you bashed that 210 AMG that was FS @ >20k recently, you are well off here. Bump for a fair price.

While I agree w/ your sentiments, this is not actually a Hammer as it doesn't have the 6.0-32v m117 motor. A proper m103 like this one shouldn't be nearly as bad on the gas at least.

Fair enough and I'll leave it to the OP to chime in if he wishes, but my limited understanding is: the value would be even higher if it were a true Hammer w/ a 6.0L 32V DOHC motor. A couple weeks back, an otherwise ordinary (meaning non-AMG) W126 SEC sold for 16K+ mainly because it had that legendary M117 motor swapped into it.

Anyway, sorry to the OP for the temporary thread hijack, but this unmitigated d'baggery needed to stop once and for all. It was turning a Mercedes forum into, ironically, the worst place to advertise a Benz for sale.

All true, just wanted to clarify for any potential buyers what the difference was.

I never meant to imply the Hammer was this car; only that it's the same as the Hammer minus one major detail - it's got a highly modified AMG 3.2 M103 rather than the M117. Then again, the w124 with the AMG M117 currently sells for $45,000 and I'm selling this w124 with the AMG M103 for $11-12,000.

As the owner of a 1984 280E AMG, a 1983 500SL AMG, and this 1987 300E AMG - I know what one is and I know what one isn't. As for the genius who says it isn't worth anything because it's a 1987 300E, then he doesn't know much about the history of AMG or how rare this car is. Then again, most people don't know how rare this car is anyway.

It does not acclomplish anything except to **** off the seller. If there are no takers at the offered price, the seller will eventually figure out that his/her vehicle is over priced and adjust as necessary. Everyone wants top dollar for the vehicle and the more rare the vehicle is, the higher the value (normally).

Market demand determines the value.

He will get a buyer in this price range, I guarantee it. Maybe not the exact asking price (how many sales go that way anyways?), but he is in a reasonable ball park. Your "feelings" W211E55Lol are just incorrect, that is all. Calling those of us who are more informed in this particular area "chumps" just highlights what you don't know, and undermines your goal of being the "For Sale Police". I do understand why you do what you do, and generally speaking it is good on forums to have someone to call out unreasonable sales so that unwitting prospective buyers don't needlessly overpay. This just happens to not be the case here. If this car were selling at a collector's type auction or specialty car dealer, they would be asking well over 15k. Right or wrong, that is the way it is, and this is actually a good deal. Take it from those of us who are intimately familiar with this era of MB's.

Bump for a cool car.

I just stumbled on this classified section for the very purpose of scoping out cars like this. I love older, rare performance cars that are not wallet busters but on the other hand--->NO one else around will have one...cars with a small but passionate following. I hope to build in the next couple years with an extra spot in the garage for a cars like this...

BTW, the price will work itself out. If you have no constructive input, get lost.

pos and FLYNAVY, please forgive my AMG ignorance. I for one do not know how rare this car is. But I do know enough not to knock it.

so did AMG make this 1987 300E with the 3.2 M103 ??

I assume so, but I'm not sure. Not trying to be a jack-@ss here.
Just want to learn more about early AMG history and what cars were factory tuned by AMG and which ones have just been modded to AMG specs outside of AMG control.

I hear words like "authentic AMG" and "rare", so I just want to learn.

Thanks.

sorry for the thread interruption.

My goal is to somehow get an AMG and into the Private Lounge before the year 2012 !
But I prefer AMGs from 1967 - up to the 2004 C32.
Well, I like the HWA CLK-DTM too.
