ML 320 CDI Kleemann KD Power box experience

Finally I had the Kleemann Power KD box installed. Officially it increases the hp from 224 to 260 and the torque to 610 but after having spoken with the Kleemann people, they convinced me that the value is definately much higher and recently they measured one ML320 CDI to 290hp. I said yes hand it over please

After having it installed, the box needed some final tuning which was done easily by clicking onto the right amount of power on the box. It's actually very easy to install and the box is also adaptive, so after two days of driving it can be retuned to max power.

Without the box it felt as if the car had a bad cold or something, now it feels as if the real power of the V6 engine has been unleashed! Everything just seems better and more powerful. The throttle response is very quick, accelleration is unbelieveble and the whole ride seems much smoother. This is a must have! Beware all X5 V8 owners!

Also had the car lowered with HR springs a few months ago, they provide a bit less comfort but better handling and better looks. The Kleemann velvet floor mats add a more sporty and exclusive look to the interior.

Kleeman Review

Thanks for the review. The Kleeman website states the box will increase mpg by as much as 10%. It also claims that there is no black smoke from the exhaust. Can you give some more detail about that?

I've only had the box installed for four days now and of course no black smoke, its a well tested high quality product which also has to pass the very strict emmision laws here in Denmark. On my E-class (W211) I've had it for over 2 years now and I have never seen black smoke comming from the exhaust system either.

Yes in my experience it has decreased the fuel consumtion (W211), I would say about 10-15% is very realistic, you can feel it every time you refuel the car. How the consumption will be on the ML is still to be seen, I'm certain that it too will give positive results.

Anyone know what the output numbers are for the ML350?

Also, does it void the warranty, or do you have to get the box removed prior to taking it in for warranty?

Yes why not. Just be patient the first couple of days, the power increases slowly

Btw the box is plug & play so every time the car needs to be serviced, I'll take it off and reset the values with the plug that is included when you buy the box

Any thoughts on what the KD Box will do to 0-60 or quarter-mile times?

The best I got so far is 0-100: 7.4sek (rpm at 2000 and then letting the brakes go)

I am doing something like 8.5seconds with my stock ML320CDI. What really impresses me, is my "new" Jeep Grand Cherokee, that V8 does
0-100kph run in 7.2-7.6seconds........

2007 E500 AMG Pack (Columbite Black) / 2006 ML 320CDI AMG Pack / 2005 E350 Sport (sold)
I have had the Kleeman KD Box on my 2006 ML320 CDI for 6 months now and have been very impressed. It is very easy to install/un-install and the performance has been faultless. Power and torque have improved significantly and drivability is excellent. Fuel economy is very good as I achieve in excess of 900 km per tank. I have seen no evidence of black smoke at all!

i confess ignorance to this topic, but why doesn't MB just make the engine perform this way in the beginning, if it's so easy? Seems to me that they have decided that would be somehow detrimental to some other aspect of the vehicle, no?

Hi,

do you have further feedback after all this time?

Where did you bought the box? Did you installed it?

Kind regards,
Jmd_2

I bought the KD box from Kleemann HQ, which is actually here in Denmark. A certified Kleemann dealer installed it for me (its easy: You also get a DIY instruction along with the purchase). My first KD box was defective, it kept cutting the power at high RPMs regardless of any stage it was tuned to. It was replaced without any problems and the new one has been flawless.

Anyway so far and I have managed to put 8-9000KM on the car with it and it gives me a nice feel to have the extra HP under the hood.

does the box really give greater range? as i believe the box fool the ECU to over fuel - by telling it that it isn't delivering the required fuel to meet rpm when accelerator pedal is demanding.

if it gives a low signal, then the pump delivers more fuel. the trip computer / DTE etc probably calculating with incorrect values and this might be displaying a greater range or the low fuel warning might trigger earlier.

i'm buying one too, to have a play with.

have you ran out of fuel yet when you thought you had enough left? are fuel display and other command stuff still correct?
